Hugh Philp's clubs were regarded as the Stradivarius's of golf clubs. Hugh Philp was renowned for his meticulous approach to club making. Ever since he died in 1856, he has been universally recognised as the long nose club maker's finest artisan. Collectors today call these long woods nose or long-headed clubs. Golfers of the day would carry three, four, or five of them, one being the putter. This replica of the original pays proper homage to Philp's legacy. The clubface was "well dished"; cut out hook-faced to give more loft. The name was derived from the ancient Scots word,' baff' or hit. The club was designed to be played as a modern wedge cut shot to float the feathery ball softly onto the green. Unfortunately, few good original examples remain today, but those that do can command very high prices at auction.
This model is a right-handed club only.
