Hickory Golf Baffy Wood by George Nicoll
This 1920s-style George Nicoll Baffy is a popular choice for long Par 3 holes or 160-200 yard shots from the fairway to the green. As a light and compact persimmon wood head club, it’s easy to handle on both the fairway and light rough. With a 20-degree loft, it’s comparable to a modern 5 wood.
This Baffy features a full brass sole plate, giving you confidence when hitting the ball from any surface, whether hard ground or challenging lies. The name Baffy comes from the long nose Baffing Spoons of the 1800s, which had more loft than the long nose Spoons, making it a versatile tool in the world of hickory golf.

In golf’s early days, players used wooden Long Nose Clubs from the tee, which later evolved into Transitional Clubs and eventually the Bulger Clubs. All were made from wood, and club makers began incorporating brass sole plates—either half or full—allowing for use on hard ground without damaging the club. This innovation led to the popularity of Brassies, Spoons and Baffys in the early 1900s, marking them as a core three woods in hickory golf.
This reproduction hickory golf club is crafted based on an original from the hickory golf era and is fully compliant with all global Hickory Golf competition rules and regulations.
