George Nicoll introduced his famous Precision irons during the final years of the hickory era, reflecting the growing demand for carefully matched iron sets that delivered consistency, control, and confidence throughout the bag. Inspired by these classic designs, this handcrafted hickory golf set faithfully reproduces the distinctive shape, balance, and playing characteristics that made the original Precision irons so highly respected. Suitable for both experienced hickory golfers and newcomers alike, the clubs combine traditional craftsmanship with forgiving playability and the feel of genuine hickory golf. This set features a polished finish on the clubheads and you can choose either a Standard Set (where available) or as a Tailored Set handcrafted to your personal requirements.

George Nicoll founded his clubmaking business in Leven, Fife, in 1881 with a simple belief: golf should be enjoyable and accessible to as many people as possible. Every club carried his famous Hand cleekmark—known as The Helping Hand of Golf—a symbol of quality craftsmanship and clubs designed to help golfers play their best.

The George Nicoll Precision irons represent one of the finest developments of the hickory golf era. Produced during the period when golfers increasingly moved towards matched iron sets, the Precision series was designed to provide a smooth progression from club to club, giving golfers greater confidence, improved distance control, and a remarkably consistent feel throughout the set. These ideas helped shape the evolution of the modern matched iron set.

Our George Nicoll Precision Irons are based on an original set from this golden era of golf. Every head faithfully reproduces the elegant profile, traditional dot-face pattern, sole shape, and famous Hand cleekmark of the originals while being handcrafted using modern materials and manufacturing techniques to provide exceptional durability and playability.

Like the original Nicoll clubs, the Precision irons are surprisingly easy to play. The thoughtfully designed sole, generous bounce, and balanced head design help the club glide smoothly through the turf, making clean contact from a wide variety of lies. Whether you are playing in a Society of Hickory Golfers competition, enjoying a relaxed round with friends, or discovering hickory golf for the first time, these clubs reward smooth rhythm rather than power.
